ABOUT STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI

Established in 1835, Starkville, Mississippi, is the county seat of Oktibbeha County and is the highest populated city of Mississippi’s Golden Triangle region. Originally settled by Native Americans, mainly the Choccuma tribe, earthwork mounds and artifacts have been found just outside of town at the historic Herman Mound and Village.

Home to the first Borden Condensary in the southern United States, Starkville was originally called Boardtown because of the mill that produced clapboards. While Starkville has a long, colorful history, it’s best known for its proximity to the University of Mississippi, and that’s part of what makes living at The Vista Starkville so great – you’re so close to campus yet enjoy the life of luxury in our student apartments!
